Trick or treat diabetes Diabetes also known as diabetes mellitus is a disease related to metabolism, caused due to high level of glucose present in the blood. Diabetes is caused because pancreas is not able to produce enough insulin or cells are not able to respond to the insulin. The most common symptoms include periodic urination, increase thirst and hunger. There are different types of diabetes mellitus some are listed below: 1) Type 1 diabetes is caused because of the destruction of à ²-cells in pancreas. According to Daneman (2006) type 1 diabetes account for approximately 5-10% of people diagnosed with diabetes. 2) Type 2 diabetes is caused because the cells are not able use the insulin properly. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) (2011) type 2 diabetes account for approximately 85-90% of people diagnosed with diabetes. There are nearly 40.9 million diabetic patients in India which contributes approximately 1% of worldââ¬â¢s diabetes Arunachalam, Gunasekaran (2002). Since India has most diabetic patients in the world it is earned the infamous title of the ââ¬Å"diabetes capital of the worldâ⬠Shaw, Sicree, Zimmet (2010).
